Sony VAIO P Series vs. Samsung NC10 in pictures

Sony VAIO P SeriesSo, we've talked about the price, informed you why it's definitely, most certainly, indubitably not a netbook (or possibly is) and given you a full hands-on run through of the Sony VAIO P Series. But for all the is it / isn't it a netbook talk, the one thing we haven't yet been able to do is show you the VAIO P next to another netbook - until now.

We've taken a whole host of photos of the Sony VAIO P Series that show it both in isolation and next to a Samsung NC10 netbook to give you an idea of just how small it is. All after the cut.

Our Samsung NC10 looks positively huge next to the P-series and we have to say, if you do insist on calling the VAIO P Series a netbook, it's like no other netbook we know. And, yes, as our snap shows, it is, just about, pocketable (okay, so we're not the first)

But does the extra smallness justify the extra large price? Well, the NC10 costs from £299. The VAIO P Series from £849. That's a £550 difference for, um, a few extra bragging rights really.

Ok, that's not entirely fair. The finish on the VAIO P Series is second to none. The keyboard is well laid out for its size and the trackpoint is clearly superior to the traditional netbook trackpad.

The 1600x768 screen resolution also can't be touched by the NC10's (and virtually every other 10in netbook's) 1024x600 effort. But, as we noted in our hands-on, such a high resolution on a tiny screen does make on-screen elements just a shade too teeny for comfort.

The NC10, on the other hand, has far superior battery life, a faster 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor to the base-spec VAIO P's 1.33GHz Z520, and 100GB more hard disk space as standard. In fact, we're really struggling to come up with a reason why you would go for the VAIO P Series over a traditional netbook.

Don't get us wrong. When you see the VAIO P Series for the first time in the flesh you will be amazed and you will want one - we're just not sure you'll want to pass up a £299 netbook and pay at least £849 for one
