Japanese modder makes his own Eee PC netbook tablet

Eee PC 701 tablet. Photo courtesy of Mobile01The Asus Eee PC T91 should be on sale in a few months (as should the competition), but some people just can’t wait that long for a tablet netbook. A poster in the Japanese Mobile 01 forum has let slip a few photos of his own modded Eee PC 701 tablet – well, we say modded, but this effort looks as professionally made as any OEM model.

Unfortunately, Google Translate doesn’t make much sense of the kanji forum thread (“Is that as long as the flower can be thousands of pieces of EPC into UMPC, especially Medieval EPC cheaper, poor economy with the money to the provincial flower”??), but the pictures are clear enough. More details and photos after the cut.

Forum member design529 appears to have removed the Eee PC 701’s keyboard to create a compact tablet, complete with 7.1in touch-sensitive screen and bespoke controls built into the bezel. The whole thing weighs in at 760g, which is around 200g less than the stock model.
