Canon launches CP780 Selphy portable printer

Canon CP780It might not be quite as exciting as what's going on over at Mobile World Congress, but Canon has just announced a new model in its Selphy portable printer range.

The CP780, which looks mighty similar to the CP760, brings with it a new Portrait Image Optimize feature. This sniffs out faces in your photos and will then adjust brightness and contrast accordingly – apparently it all makes for more natural-looking photos, but we'll reserve judgment until we get our hands on one.

Other features include red-eye reduction, PictBridge support and a 2.5in LCD to preview your photos on. You can print via USB or direct from a memory card, but if you want to print photos direct from your mobile you'll need to invest in a Bluetooth adapter.

Canon reckons the CP780 will spit out 6x4in photos in just 47 seconds, which isn't bad, and the prints will be water-resistant and will last up to 100 years.

There's no mention of the CP780 on Canon's UK site at the moment, but you can read more about it on the USA version. Similarly, pricing is only in dollars at present, with the printer costing $99.99, while the Bluetooth adapter will set you back $50.

If you want it to be truly portable, you'll also need to splash out a further $80 for the battery pack. At which point it all starts to sound rather expensive.
