Get that Palm Pre feel with TealOS

Champing at the bit to get busy with the Palm Pre and its shiny new operating system, webOS? Then you’ll be very happy to hear about TealOS.

It’s a webOS-like application that runs under PalmOS and offers some of the same functions and graphical finesse exhibited in the various Palm Pre demonstrations we’ve seen to date – and yet it costs just US$14.95 and is available right now. Tempted?

More, including a video of TealOS in action, after the cut.

Screenshots of TealOS surfaced last week and the program went on sale soon after. However, we’ve awoken this morning to find that Engadget has been busy over the weekend making a video of TealOS in action on a Palm Treo 850.

The chaps there conclude that developer TealPoint Software has "nailed" a lot of the best bits of the Pre’s functionality, emulating cards, swiping, deck reshuffling, transparency (or the 'alpha layer', as tech folks seem compelled to call it) and, yep, the wave launcher.

From Engadget’s video (which we’ve embedded below), it all looks pretty swish, if a little choppy in parts. Indeed, though it really is just an application running under PalmOS, we’d say that TealOS is more than just a pretty skin. Worth a look then.
