Asus offers SSD upgrades for Eee PC 901
If you've purchased an Eee PC 901 but are finding the SSD that came with it more than a little restrictive, Asus would like to upgrade it for you.
There are, however, two caveats. The first is that it's not a free service, which is no great surprise. The second, however, is that you'll need to book a flight over to Taiwan.
If you do find yourself strutting around Taiwan with your 901, though, you won't need a huge amount of cash to get the upgrade as Asus are only charging $1,500 Taiwanese dollars - as long as the money markets don't do anything crazy after this post, that's around £30. More details after the cut.
The upgrade you get all depends on the size of the current SSD in your Eee PC 901. Owners of the 4Gb model will get a new 16Gb drive, while those with 12Gb SSDs will be given double the storage at 24Gb. And if you've got one of the 16Gb models, you'll be rewarded with nothing less than a 32Gb drive. Not bad for just £30!
It's not such good news for those who aren't planning a trip to Taiwan, though, since there's no word on whether Asus is planning to offer a similar service over here in the UK. Similarly, owners of Eee PCs other than the 901 are, at present, left out in the cold. We'll keep you posted.
