I bought one of these from curry's on the premise advent was there own brand pc so parts support and service would be a breeze. On the contrary!!! It is impossible to get an adaptor for one of these. Therefor a perfectly good laptop is renderd useless in less than 8 months from new!
Don't waste money on something you can't get support or parts for!
Advent launches thin and light Altro CULV laptop for £600
CULV laptops are one sign that the novelty of netbooks is wearing off a little. Advent is the latest to line up one of these low-cost ultraportables with a beefy processor and the Advent Altro will be available in branches of PC World, Currys and Dixons from 24 August for £600.
Judging by the photos that we’ve seen so far (and presented here for your viewing pleasure), the 21mm thick Advent Altro has more than a touch of the Apple MacBook Air about it, although it is 250g heavier — and about half the price. It has the same 13.3in screen as the MacBook Air, but there’s no word yet on its resolution.
More information and photos after the cut.
The rest of the Advent Altro’s specification seems pretty reasonable. It’s uses an Intel Mobile Celeron CULV processor with an undisclosed clock speed and 3Gb of memory with a 120Gb hard drive. There’s no optical drive, but it does have both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and while it ships with Windows Vista Home Premium, this does qualify for free upgrade to Windows 7 Premium come its October 22 release date. Battery life is pegged at around four hours.
Advent is also offering the Altro Elite for £800. This has largely the same specification, but has a more capable Intel Core 2 Solo processor, a ‘flush glass” screen and longer batter life.
A number of manufacturers are readying CULV laptops for imminent launch, including Acer, ASUS and MSI, but the Advent Altro is the first to go on sale in the UK.
