Sync Yahoo Calendar with an iPhone
If you’re an iPhone owner who dumped Yahoo Calendar in favour of Gmail Calendar so that you could sync your appointments over the air, here’s a bit of good news (or bad, if you only switched in the last couple weeks). Yahoo Calendar can now sync directly with an iPhone running the latest OS 3.0.
There is one caveat with this set-up — the first iPhone synchronisation will upgrade your Yahoo calendar to the new beta application and you won’t be able to revert to the old Yahoo Calendar app. We don’t think anyone will notice, let alone mind, though.
You don’t need access to a computer to enable the synchronisation — it can all be done on an iPhone by following the steps after the cut.
-
Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars on the iPhone
-
Tap the ‘Add Account…’ button
-
Tap Other > Add CalDAV Account
-
For Server, type “yahoo” (without the quotes) — this will be automatically converted to caldav.calendar.yahoo.com
-
For User Name and Password, enter your Yahoo account login details
-
Tap Next and the iPhone will confirm the settings — tap Save to finish
-
Go to the iPhone calendar application to trigger the first sync.
Don’t forget that iPhone users can also subscribe to a variety of free calendars for everything from public holidays to football fixtures using the iCal protocol. Simply go to the www.icalshare.com site in Safari on the iPhone and click the Subscribe link for one of the many calendars to add it to your calendar list.
