Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 unboxing video

The news that the Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 would be on sale from Vodafone in the UK broke at the beginning of September and now the first smartphones are starting to appear.

Tech blog The Unwired has managed to get an early review model and, as is traditional under such circumstances, has lovingly captured it being removed from its box.

Unfortunately, this is an early test unit rather than a production version of the smartphone, so the box itself isn’t much to look at. The Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 is all present and correct though, and the video gives a good impression of the size and shape of the handset, and it’s sundry other features.

Sony Ericsson seems to have improved upon the fiddly front panel controls that annoyed us so much with the Xperia X1 , but it still has the same optical four-way control pad. The screen is now flush-fitting too — so no ridges around the edge to get in the way of your fingers.

The keyboard has also been redesigned to use larger keys, though the reviewer makes no comment about its usability. There’s no mention of the Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system or custom X Panel interface either, though this is just an unboxing video, so we can’t really complain.

We can’t embed the video, but you can watch it over at The Unwired.
