Dell Android-powered tablet pops up online

Demand for Microsoft Windows-powered Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and handheld tablets like the Nokia N810 has hardly gone through the roof, but with Apple rumoured to working on its own tablet and Nokia still plugging away at the idea, we can only assume that there’s some research to suggest that this type of device has a market.
Archos is already taking the Android tablets, of course, and now it looks like Dell wants in, too. Photos and video of its new MID have popped up on a Vietnamese tech news site, and the word is that it will be called the Streak and run Google Android 2.0.
More details after the cut.
The word is that the Streak has a 5in capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch and an 800 x 480 resolution (same as the Nokia N900), along with built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3G — this isn’t an oversize smartphone.

The device shown in the video (complete with Lord of the Rings soundtrack) looks impressively sleek and shiny, but some aspects of Android look a little awkward at this resolution — check out the multitude of application icons. The user interface also seems to be jerky and non-responsive in parts, but we’ll be charitable and assume that this is a pre-production Streak with non-final software.
Dell is saying nothing about the Streak so far, so there’s obviously no news on when it will appear, or for how much. The development is clearly pretty far along though, so we wouldn’t be at all surprised if it was launched in the US in time for Xmas.
