Intel launching Atom N470 next January - new netbooks to have 2Gb of RAM

We’re not quite sure of what to make of this Fudzilla story about Intel relaxing its restrictions to allow manufacturers to install 2Gb of RAM in their Atom-powered netbooks, since we’re already starting to see Windows 7 models with that amount of memory.

Nonetheless, the expectation is that Intel will increase its arbitrary 1Gb memory limit with the launch of its new Atom N450 ‘ Pine Trail M’ processor at the beginning of next year, leaving manufacturers free to create more capable Windows 7 netbooks using this 1.83GHz chip.

Screen size will apparently still be limited to no more than 10.2in (again, this seems more like a soft limit to us) and Intel will be encouraging manufacturers to use 20 or 30Gb SSDs — though it’s unclear how that will affect its netbook pricing guidelines of ‘up to $349’.
