NVIDIA Ion-powered Lenovo S12 ION and Compaq Mini 311 tested with 3DMark06

The NVIDIA Ion graphics chipset may have been announced ages ago, but we still haven’t seen a netbook for sale in the UK that uses it.
This is set to change with manufacturers scheduled to launch Ion-powered models before the end of the year, and German tech site NewGadgets.de has put a couple of models through their paces.
It tested the Lenovo S12 ION and Compaq Mini 311 with the 3DMark06 3D benchmark — and captured the whole thing on video. Unfortunately, the whole thing is in German and the video has been speeded up by a factor of three, so there’s little to be gained by actually watching the whole thing — although the fact that both netbooks can run the benchmark at all counts for something, since not all netbooks with Intel GMA 500 graphics will.
Skip to the end and you’ll see that the Lenovo S12 ION running Windows 7 scores 1466 and the Compaq Mini 311 running Windows XP scores 1468.
These results are on a par with those achieved by the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics chipset and they smash 3DMark06 scores achieved by the Intel GMA HD4500M chipset that’s currently appearing in many ULV ultraportables (it scores around 700).

No comments from the reviewer on screen graphics quality?
So far I have seen lots of demos, but no real evaluations.
Surely the reviewers of the 20th century haven't gone limp like the journalists of these times as well?

This is just a 3D benchmark, Gordon and NewGadgets.de posted a few other 3D benchmarks to YouTube too. There aren't any Ion netbooks available in the UK yet, but we hope to get our hands on one soon and do a full test — watch this space. -
My S12 29595GU is arriving tomorrow.
I know that distribution has been slow, too slow.
I'm anxious to see some real world tests.
