Spotify wants to make the move to Xbox and set-top boxes
Music streaming service Spotify has hinted it could be making the move to the games console in the near future as it hopes to expand its service to run on TVs, or any other devices connected to the internet.
Speaking at this week's SXSWi event Spotify's CEO Daniel Ek revealed he would love to see the service migrate onto a number of web-connected platforms around the home and sees this as essential for allowing the service to continue being a success.
At the start of this month Spotify revealed it had accumulated 7 million subscribers since its launch, with 320,000 premium account users choosing to pay for an ad-free subscription.
Today, it was confirmed Sony Ericsson's latest smartphone - the Vivaz, would come with Spotify pre-installed from 3 Mobile. But according to Tech Radar, Ek has confirmed more deals like this are to come in the near future: "We want to enable your library on all these devices. Whether it is a set-top box, whether it's an Xbox or a mobile phone - that doesn't really matter for us. We want to make music like water."
Despite its enthusiastic plans for expanding the service Spotify has not yet managed to make its mark in the US yet and is currently in negotiation with US counterparts of the copyright owners.
