TalkTalk to offer bundled mobile phone and mobile broadband

talktalk logoTalkTalk has laid out plans to attract as many as 180,000 new customers in 2010 as it continues operating for its first year after demerging from Carphone Warehouse.

In its annual financial update for the year up, until the 31 March 2010, it revealed it currently boasts a subscriber base of 4.2 million customers, with an impressive 42,000 new net users only being added in the final three months of the year. During the course of the entire year TalkTalk's broadband base expanded by 144,000 (these figures exclude former Tiscali and AOL customers).

Speaking on the Tiscali acquisition and the result this had on customer trends TalkTalk's report explained: "The Tiscali base was re-branded to TalkTalk in January and the majority of customers have been migrated onto TalkTalk tariffs. As we expected, some customers outside our network footprint received price increases, reflecting the cost of delivery. Custom churn in these areas increased in line with expectations. The new enlarged TalkTalk customer base, including the re-branded Tiscali customers, increased by 81,500 during the quarter.

Meanwhile, Charles Dunstone, chairman of TalkTalk, said: "In terms of net additions to the TalkTalk brand we're the fastest growing internet service provider in the market. TalkTalk is absolutely flying."

As well as speaking on plans for the development of TalkTalk mobile phone and mobile broadband services, the report took some time to explain TalkTalk's exploration into super-fast Next Generation Access broadband. It said it was currently working with BT Openreach and "infrastructure developers" to achieve this.

TalkTalk also confirmed it's role in the online TV scheme, Project Canvas, remains on track and it estimates there will be a commercial launch of this service in 2011.
