Is it a tablet? Is it a smartphone? O2 brings us the Dell Streak

Dell Streak to launch exclusively on O2 in June

Computer manufacturer Dell has teamed up with O2 to 'exclusively' launch its latest product, the Dell Streak on O2's network.

The device, which will be available from early June, seems to be aimed at the enormous gap in the market between the smartphone and the tablet PC - for when a tablet is just too big, but your smartphone is too small. It is described by O2 as "a bold new class of product", combining Google's Android operating system with a decent 1GHZ Qualcomm processor, a 5 inch touch-screen and 5MP camera with dual LED flash. Connectivity comes courtesy of 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The device will bring internet, entertainment, turn-by-turn navigation and other apps to all those customers 'looking for a big screen experience without having to carry a laptop around'. Ron Garriques, president of Dell Communication Solutions Group, said: “The Dell Streak hits the sweet spot between traditional smartphones and larger-screen tablets. Its unique size provides people new ways to enjoy, connect, and navigate their lives."

While Apple can clearly get away with introducing a new device size to the market, it remains to be seen whether Dell has the same fanbase or marketing excellence to make the Streak stick.
