Zen lays out plans for 40Mb fibre broadband in 2010
Internet service provider, Zen Internet has announced plans to offer its customers a range of fibre optic broadband services from September this year.
With a minimum download speed of 15Mb and the potential for up to 40Mb Zen's imminent fibre optic packages will available with either up to 2Mb or up to 10Mb upload options.
Zen is putting together tailored fibre optic broadband products for both residential and business customers with the promise of 'prioritised traffic' on downloads. The final prices for these products have yet to be confirmed although it's been suggested these will be "at a slight premium to current broadband services".
Speaking on the imminent launch Zen has confirmed it won't be implementing a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) on its product. It explained: "All our services have broadband usage allowances which are clearly stated when you order the service".
Working closely with BT to trial its fibre optic broadband services Zen later extended its trial to its own employees and a limited number of customers. It's still inviting a number of subscribers to take part in a commercial trial and is asking those interested to send their name, address and telephone number to fibre@zen.co.uk.
Zen will be launching its fibre broadband products in September and these will be available to those connected to a fibre-enabled exchange. To quickly see if you're anywhere near a FTTC-enabled BT exchange the provider has put together a region-by-region chart, here.
