3 announces new 'one-touch' MiFi device for personal WiFi

Three MiFi WiFi deviceMobile broadband operator 3 mobile has unleashed its new 'one-touch' MiFi (Huawei 585) device today, allowing customers to create a personal WiFi hot spot for up to five devices.

Boosting the WiFi signal for your iPad, laptop or handheld games console the latest version of the MiFi device from Three features a one button connection feature, an improved display an dan online dashboard that works with any browser.

The device screen displays important information such as the amount of data used, the speed of the current connection and the length of browsing time. There is no need to charge this device as it will replenish its power when it's in use.

Three's original mobile WiFi device was released back in August 2009 but then cost a fair whack at around £100 for its "Ready to Go" kit.

Speaking on the release of the Huawei E585 dongle Mark Brewer, head of broadband devices at 3, shed some light on the new features: "Following the launch of our first MiFi device, our customers asked for changes to be made. We worked with Huawei to incorporate features such as a 'one button to connect', an improved screen and a great browser dashboard that works across Windows, Mac and Linux devices."

UPDATE 5 July 2010: MiFi is now available on PAYG for £49.99, with 3 month's data included for £69.99 or from £9.50 on contract

It sounds like you may have missed the purpose of a 'MiFi' device. The idea is that a device with wifi can connect to a mifi, and the mifi connects to a cellular network. Thus the wifi signal is not 'boosted' in any way, but your device can access the Internet from anywhere like a 3G enabled device.
Hope that clears it up somewhat.

I believe the charging miswording refers to the fact that the original MiFi could not be recharged while it was actually in use. A bit of an inherent flaw if you ask me. I only got my original one a few days ago and found about this new version today so I'll be returning the flawed one for the new one which can be charged while you use it (in the car for instance, where mine will get most use).

charging problem solved - just use a better charger such as the Ipad charger and the USB cable provided with the MIFI device.... et voila charging happily when in use!
