BT says it's confident a strike won't affect broadband services

BT logoThe Communications Worker's Union (CWU) is currently balloting on whether or not BT employees will take strike action in dispute of pay.

Since the disputes started to hit the headlines fears have escalated over the smooth running of broadband and phone services if a strike does go ahead.

Hoping to tame down any concerns over the potentially troublesome technical glitches that could occur over this strike time a spokesman for BT has said the company is confident any strike action from its staff over pay would not affect telephony and broadband services.

Speaking to Web User a spokesman for BT reassured customers: "We have corporate resilience strategy and business continuity plans in place designed to deal with industrial action. We are confident that the networking and therefor customers' broadband and phone connections won't be impacted at all."

However, the internet and phone provider did accept it won't be able to determine what impact the strike will have over its services until the strike details are confirmed.

The result of the strike ballot papers will be announced on 5 July. If the majority agree to take action a strike could be arranged for as soon as the middle of July 2010.

Both the CWU and BT seem to have to have come to terms with the fact the strike could be lengthy and long-winded. Speaking to the Financial Times last week the CWU's deputy general secretary, Andy Kerr said: "If it takes quite a period of time of industrial action for the company to see sense, we are prepared as a union to go down that route."
