BT offers unlimited WiFi for Total Broadband and O2 mobiles
Internet service provider and phone operator BT has announced it's now offering unlimited WiFi access to millions of BT Total Broadband users as well as O2 mobile customers.
Previously, BT had put a cap on the number of WiFi minutes available to use at its hotspots depending on the customer's BT Total Broadband option. However, after acknowledging the increased need for WiFi access thanks to the launch of tablet computers such as the iPad it's decided to offer unlimited WiFi access across all BT Total Broadband options.
As well as BT Openzone hotspots this offering also includes BT FON - a scheme which gives the opportunity for members to share and access secure WiFi connections when their out and about across the UK.
Speaking on the service John Petter, consumer managing director, for BT retail, said: "Our BT FON and BT Openzone networks expanded by 800,000 hotspots during 2009 and we expect to have over 2.5m hotspots by the end of 2011. This continuing level of expansion means these networks are rapidly becoming the simplest way for people to access the internet when out and about."
BT has confirmed it will shortly be unveiling a downloadable application for BT Openzone and BT FON users to help them track down their nearest WiFi hotspots. There are currently around 1.5 million hotspots in the UK.
