New survey suggests mobile broadband ends in frustration for many

A new study by YouGov, commissioned by mobile data business Acision, has revealed that mobile broadband providers have a long way to go before meeting customer expectations. The main beef focuses on broadband dongles and the quality of their connectivity.

The biggest revelation from the survey is that that 67 per cent of mobile broadband users who utilise a dongle on a regular basis are disappointed with the poor quality of the services they receive. Users with a dongle connection cited very slow internet speeds as the main reason for their unhappiness with services, with 84 per cent not being satisfied with this core requirement for their mobile broadband.

Nearly half (49%) of all the people who took part in the study also had issues with the network they were using and losing the connection was an issue for 40 per cent of mobile broadband account holders. Marek Vaygelt, Head of Consumer, Technology and Telecoms Consulting at YouGov, said: "Mobile broadband is a frequent topic of debate with UK consumers."

"The research highlights that many consumers are suffering regular and significant problems with mobile broadband and can be frustrated with the service they receive."

Although there is clearly room for improvement there has been a steady increase in demand for mobile broadband services year on year. This has been compounded by the drop in price of laptops, which are now a much more affordable proposition than they used to be. The advent of smaller netbook devices, along with tablet computers, is also adding to the appeal of mobile broadband and internet access on-the-go.

Mobile Broadband is being treated as a replacement for home broadband, this is where the problems come in, Mobile Broadband is just that, mobile, people sit still in a rural area with virtually no coverage and expect it to work, the amount of times i have gone to friends houses who tell me their internet doesnt work properly to find out its mobile broadband through any of the major networks is beyond a joke, these sticks are meant to be used when you are out and about with a laptop, not plugged into the back of your desktop next to a wall behind a desk, under the stairs.

Seriously, if Mobile Broadband was being used the way it was meant to be used there would be less frustration, there are issues with all networks but these are outweighed by peoples stupidity.
