YouTube allows users to upload longer videos after making improvements to its site
Broadband users will be able to enjoy a little more time in the limelight after moves this week by YouTube to allow longer video clips to be added to the site. So, now you'll be able to upload a video with a running time of 15 minutes, as opposed to the 10 minutes that was previously possible.
YouTube is owned by Google and the video sharing website has become a huge hit with people wanting to share their digital content, although even at raising it to 15 minutes means that this revised video length is still rather restrictive for many. Google, however, made an attempt to suggest that the move was rather more exciting than it might seem.
In a frothy outburst on Broadcasting Ourselves, the official YouTube blog, they said: "We want YouTube to be the best place to upload video. Without question, the number one requested feature by our creators is to upload videos longer than 10 minutes. We’ve heard you, and today we’re pleased to announce that we’ve increased the upload limit to 15 minutes."
"We encourage you to take full advantage of this new time limit by making a video of your '15 minutes of fame'. Imagine that this video is all the world will ever know about you: what would you want to communicate? What will be the enduring stamp you’ve left on us all? Tag your video with “yt15minutes,” upload it by Wednesday, August 4, and we’ll select a handful of people to truly gain their 15 minutes of fame by featuring them on the YouTube homepage in a future spotlight."
It goes on to explain that some back-end developments has enabled the site to be able to increase the time limit before adding: "One final note: if you’re uploading a video that was previously rejected for being too long, you’ll have to go into “My Videos” and delete it before attempting to upload it again."
