Newly announced Samsung Galaxy tablet aims its sights on Apple iPad
Samsung has long been rumoured to have been developing an Apple iPad-style tablet device and it now seems that the work is coming to fruition with a look and feel said to be along the same lines as their current Galaxy S smartphone.
Initiations to a press event in the US on August 11th suggest that the tablet, which could be called the Galaxy Tab, will be unveiled by the Korean electronics giant.
Several new products are due to be displayed at the media event, with centre stage being taken by the new tablet. It's likely to run Android OS2.2, will have a 7-inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 1.2GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor and 16GB of internal storage.
Rumours also suggest that the device will have two cameras, one a 3.2 inch megapixel offering complete with flash and a front facing VGS camera for making web calls. There will also be a microSD card slot allowing it to be expanded to 32GB. Connectivity should come via Wi-Fi or 3G.
If the new Samsung tablet does come to market it will be ahead of Microsoft, which is said to be developing its own rival to the Apple iPod. The iPad has notched up sales of around 3 million since it's release in April of this year.
