TalkTalk customers face price hikes following BT's recent line rental increase

Consumers who are signed up to TalkTalk will have to face price rises in the wake of BT's recent announcement that it would be raising monthly line rental fees.

As reported by Broadband Genie just a few weeks ago, BT upped its line rental to £12.04 while also increasing charges for weekly daytime phone calls, which are due to go up from 5.9 pence a minute to 6.4 in the Autumn.

Unsurprisingly, TalkTalk has now followed suit with its own line rental charge going up, from £11.49 to £12.04 per month. Daytime call charges take on a similar trend to BT, with a rise of 5.8 pence per minute to 6.4, while the price per call connection will go up from 9.9 pence to 10.9 per each time you use the phone.

Elsewhere, the TalkTalk Mobile Extra add-on goes up from 45 pence per month to £1.46, bringing it more in line with the equivalent service from BT.

There are other TalkTalk pricing surprises on the horizon too, with standard international calls going up and ancillary charges increasing. Late payment charges, for example, will be bumped up from £7.50 to £10. If you move house, the one-off fee will now be £49.99.

Customers are being informed via a letter accompanying their August bill and can expect to see the new charges imposed as of 1st October.
