Vodafone web site failure stops mobile broadband top-ups

Vodafone mobile broadband users experienced a series of problems with login and top-up this evening (Sunday 29 August) that lasted for at least three hours as the Vodafone website suffered severe outages and speed issues. 

Problems included failure to login, unavailable credit balance details and the inability to topup, up to and including the confirmation screen.

A call to Vodafone customer service at around 9.30pm revealed that the problems were system-wide, and that Vodafone’s own customer service staff could not take payments by credit or debit card. One caller was advised to “call back in five minutes” to see if the situation had improved.

The problems seemed to be resolved by about 10.15pm as some users managed to top up. However, it appears earlier top-ups had actually succeeded, though with no confirmation email or text message getting through.

No information was available from Vodafone as to the cause of the problems, although some Vodafone users have previously reported similar web site and login issues on Vodafone’s customer forums.
