BT boosts Wi-Fi access to its 1.6 million hotspots with an iPhone and Android app
Customers of BT will be that little bit better connected and do their bit for charity as from today if they choose to do download a brand new app.
The telecoms giant has unveiled a free mobile application that will automatically connect customers to its expanding network of Wi-Fi hotspots up and down the country. Currently, there are around 1.6 million of these across the country and with the addition of this new app users will be able to access free and unlimited Wi-Fi. A similarly gratis mapping service also enables users to locate their nearest hotspot.
As part of the launch celebrations BT is giving 50p to the BBC's Children in Need charity for each of the first 20,000 BT FON applications that are downloaded. The app is available for the Apple iPhone and phones running the Android operating system. All customers need to do is download the app, input their BT internet username and password and choose to be automatically logged in whenever they are in range of one of the hotspots.
Access is free and unlimited for all BT Total Broadband customers so no extra charges will be incurred on mobile bills. The BT network extends right across the UK and consists of both BT Openzone and also the newer FON hotspot service.
