2010 is expected to be a successful one for VoIP hardware (voice over internet protocol) in 2010, with sales across the globe set to rise.
According to chief executive officer for Phone.com, a US provider of VoIP, rather than suffering in tough global economic conditions, VoIP has thrived. It's become a popular choice for small businesses looking to cut the costs of their phone bill.
Speaking to TMCnet, Ari Rabban, the chief executive officer for Phone.com said the VoIP market would continue to thrive in 2010. But its success wouldn't be held in new technology rather “actual usage” and increased hardware sales.
VoIP allows customers to cut the cost of their fixed-line telephone bills by making calls over their broadband connection, rather through traditional telephone wires or mobiles – the most popular of these services being Skype.
The popularity of VoIP won't be welcomed with open arms by UK internet service providers, though. Very bandwidth intensive, it's not only a drain on traffic but, with many broadband providers also offering phone packages, cheaper VoIP hardware could mean they stand to lose profits in voice calls.

Saving money at the office and on the road with a WiFi connection to make calls for pennies has saved companies outrageous amounts of money from their telecom budgets.
