Another kick in the teeth for troubled Tiscali as IPTV subscribers dwindle
Tuesday 07 April 2009 16 Comments
There’s yet more bad news for internet service provider Tiscali UK as was revealed it failed to meet its subscriber targets for its broadband based TV service by a drastic 50 per cent.
The provider anticipated around 200,000 new customers would sign up to Tiscali TV (IPTV) by the end of the fourth quarter 2008 (Q4). Unfortunately, rather embarrassing in comparison, it only managed to sign up 100,000.

Tiscali UK originally acquired the HomeChoice on-demand broadband IPTV service in 2006 and since then it has failed to provide any inspiring statistics. Of course, with pretty consistent news the provider is suffering from financial difficulty, maintaining a poor performing broadband TV service on top of an ever-declining broadband subscription base is arguably an uphill struggle. So far though, there are no signs that the provider is to halt the IPTV service.
Since the provider has come under pressure for poor performance, independent broadband news site, ISPreview has acknowledged service statistics for Tiscali UK have been increasing difficult to obtain. Recently, it was reported suscriber numbers for its broadband service had also fallen by a considerable -64,000.

I appreciate there has been a major failure problem in south east London and Essex but how come I am also experiencing problems with my broadband, are too are quite a few people I know, we also currently have no service it has been down since Sunday and every time you ring the customer technical help line it diverts to an auto voice telling about Essex. I have been a loyal customer for a long time but I am getting tired of the continual drop-outs, my system is configured correctly, can you please advise - I do not wish to leave Tiscali but its becoming untenable.
My tiscali address is leo.lee@tiscali.co.uk I am currently using my work computer.
Look forward to your help Cheers Al

Doppey contracters cut a major cable at the Olympic village that apparently is encased in asbestos - that's why broadband is so bad at the moment . They have to sort out asbestos problem first before sorting cable. -
I live in Staffordshire and have also had no broadband service since Sunday - when I finally got through to someone on the technical support line they told me that this was due to the problems in Essex. Very frustrating...they should be contacting people to inform them of the cause of the fault, and likely repair schedule. -
I Live in the North of Scotland and I too have experienced problems since Sunday.
Through constantly trying I've managed to log on intermittantly since yesterday.
Would be nice if Tiscali notified us of the problem!

Tiscali BB has been slow and dropping out for the last 6 weeks - they cant blame a cable fault.
If the fault is asbestos related they should have to notify the HSE and give 14 days notice before they can deal with it.
I think Tiscali needs to improve there BB service before they end up going bust.
they are rubbish at the moment. -
No broadband in Ayrshire either.
I thought the whole purpose of the internet when it was designed was that should part of the system be damaged it would still function as the information would be routed another way?

Waste of time... I live in the Cotswolds, no access since Sunday. Voice message says 'send an email'. Are they taking the pi55? Why does my work internet work then? Probably because they aren't with the Tiscali. -
We also have been with Tiscali for a while now, about 6 years, and up until this year have found service ok, but this last breakdown in broadband service we think has a lot to do with Tiscali strugling to operate as a provider should.Perhaps a other company ought to be looking to take charge. -
Tiscali are driving me crazy and I am glad to have read the above posts and know it is not just me! I have had no internet since last saturday evening and we use it all the time for our business. It is a disgrace that there is nothing on Tiscali's website about the problems etc and that you are left to hunt around the web to see what the problem is. Their automated information is pathetic! Why don't they update it? Argh!

my broadband was down from tuesday morning till friday. Then was ok till sunday night and then went down again late today Easter Monday/early tuesday. I called customer service line and was told that tiscali had had to disconnect some subscribers it had re-connected, so it could connect some others! Sounds likely they are being squeezed by BT, due to more than construction and related asbestos problems. -
i live in glasgow and since easter sunday night my connection keeps on getting cut off evey 10 to 20 mins and the problem is getting worse. It is now tuesday and still the same, what is going on? -
We have had no connectivity since the 4th April 2009. It's now the 16th April 2009!! We had a professional PC technician in who tells us that the downstream noise margin is only 5 decibels and we need a minimum of 8 decibels to get connectivity. You try telling the technical team at Tiscali that!! They keep saying that our router need reconfiguring and it's our hardware! The technical team have no clue about line fault problems. We have made dozens of calls to the support line and spoke to nearly all the inhabitants of India. Finally we have had enough so we asked for our MAC code. We were informed we had to wait 24 hours for MAC code to be generated and up to 5 days to receive it!! What a sham!!! I can catagorically state I would strongly recommend never signing up with Tiscali. No wonder they are in financial difficulty. Their customer support team, what customer support?!!! -
i've still got BB but i think a carrier pidgon would be quicker. the so called enginers in india keep telling me to turn off my fire wall !! so don't expect to much from them -
My Tiscalie broadband has been disconnecting every night at about 11:30 for the past 3 nights. -
I have to admit I had Tiscali service and was happy. Moved house and took Sky who I have to admit I was very dissapointed with their service. I have since moved back to Tiscali. I used to work for BT and I have to admit they are no better.
Like I said I have never had a problem with Tiscali. I hope they do keep a float and prove that their competitors are vastly over priced.

I cannot receive emails since the 18th of April. I cannot connect to the Tiscali webpage but can connect to all other web pages.
I called tiscali who at first said their was nothing wrong with their service. Put me through to someone in India I think totally useless.
I rang again yesterday got someone who tried to fix the problem, offered to reroute my emails to my other account then said he was going to go off and try to fix my probelm and ring me back. Guess what - no one has rung me back and there are 127 emails waiting, but not being delivered.
