AOL customers lose their .com email addresses

It has been reported by ISPreview that customers of AOL around the world have had their free .COM email addresses (webmail) taken away from them without any prior warning. Residents in Australia at the start of the month first noticed the change in web address at the start of the month, but the phenomenon is now spreading throughout the rest of the world.

Without any email notification to let customers know that changes were taking place with their webmail those attempting to log in to their accounts were met with a notice telling them of the cancellation along with an error code of ‘C0FE022B’. Some customers have even reported that their accounts have been migrated over to a commercial alternative and their accounts charged with the additional fee without prior consent.

So far, this problem has not been experienced with .co.uk addresses, although there is speculation that the company’s current financial predicament is to blame.
