BBC iPlayer now available on BlackBerry smartphones

Owners of smartphones BlackBerry Bold 2 and Blackberry Storm 2 are now able to catch up on BBC TV content thanks to the introduction of iPlayer on their handsets.
BlackBerry is a little late to the game but now the feature has been introduced, owners will be able to stream TV and radio shows available via the service. At the moment Vodafone and 3 Mobile are the only service providers to offer 3G support for the iPlayer though, so customers on another network will need to fall back on the handset’s WiFi feature.
Users will be able to access the new feature without downloading a dedicated app. Instead, it will be possible to view iPlayer from the handset’s browser.
BlackBerry users will be at a slight disadvantage to the smartphones offered by Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson though as unfortunately there will be no option to download content ready for viewing at a later time.
The BBC has released a handy compatibility grid so mobile phone users are able to check whether their model will allow them to download or stream TV or radio content through WiFi or 3G networks. Using this grid it’s interesting to see only Nokia N85, N86, N96 and N97 phones allow users to transfer a downloaded programme from their PC to a mobile device and view at a later stage without the need for a mobile internet connection.
