BT Chairman reveals he can't get broadband

If there's anyone in the UK you'd think has access to a snazzy fast broadband service, then it's the chairman of BT. Not so. In a report published by City AM it has been revealed the operator's top dog, Sir Michael Rake, can't get access to broadband at his Hambledon Valley home in Hampshire, because it's too far away from a BT telephone exchange.

Obviously not willing to settle for dial-up, it has been reported the chairman is being used as a guinea pig to test out the providers new 'broadband-enabling technology'. The aim is to use the technology to extend broadband coverage to the UK's troublesome 'notspots'.

Early tests have proved successful, according to a spokesperson for BT. However, it also claimed a roll-out of the technology would be difficult to justify on a commerical basis. Unfortunately, full technical details on the trials haven't been disclosed.

    Hi Paul.

We live in a village in rural Devon called Northlew and are going live this week with wireless broadband.

We are rolling the same project out to other communities in the UK through Westcoast Broadband and may be able to help you, BT's BET technology of which Mr Rake is trying is not the answer as it will only ever give a 2 meg service.. in less than 2 years it will be out dated and unusable as web pages become more bandwidth hungry with media etc.

We currently are helping a further 4 villages with a solution in Devon, Cornwall, Gloucester and a possible in the centre of London! We have already pressurised BT into supplying broadband to a Devon village through conventional means, so all is not lost for you.

Wireless solutions can give speeds of up to a gig and are future proof. If we can help you or any other person who reads this page, have a look at the project at northlew.net

    Good luck
