BT kits up Flybe lounges with WiFi

Thursday 23 July 2009 Comment

Internet and phone provider BT has announced it's kitted up six of Flybe's passenger lounges with its Openzone service.

Enabling customers to use any wireless-enabled device passengers will now be able to connect to the web and make VoIP calls in lounges at Belfast, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Exeter, Gatwick and Glasgow airport.

This service will be free to all BT broadband customers with inclusive BT FON WiFi minutes, all BT Openzone subscribers as well as O2 iPhone and mobile broadband users with access included in their contracts. This doesn't mean that other users can't use the service, though. Anyone is free to purchase a BT Openzone voucher via the website.

Speaking on the launch, Chris Bruce, general manager of BT Openzone, said: “Business travellers want to be productive before their flights and holidaymakes are armed with wireless devices. With access in the UK, plus overseas hotspots, we're providing more WiFi where travellers want it, allowing them to keep in touch on the move.

BT Openzone access is currently charged from 0.5p per minute and BT assures customers access using this service overseas is still significantly cheaper than making use of the new EU mobile roaming rate. Using the BT International WiFi voucher, users are able to access the internet abroad from 12p per MB.
