Carphone Warehouse split to create 10,000 jobs

Further details are starting to come in regarding the imminent split of The Carphone Warehouse next year, and it’s not all doom and gloom. As part of the demerger it is estimated a total of 10,000 jobs could be created over the next four years as the company opens 60 to 70 mammoth electronics stores throughout the UK. This development will take place as part of a joint venture with US retail giants Best Buy.

As part of the demerger Carphone is being given the nod to split its residential broadband service, TalkTalk from its 2,400 existing retail stores. Charles Dunstone, co-founder of Carphone and current chief executive, will act as chairman for the two separate firms.

Speaking at the company’s fourth-quarter trading update, Dunstone confirmed profits for TalkTalk are expected to be disappointing this year. Currently the UK’s third largest internet service provider with 2.8 million customers, it predicts it will have added between 125,000 to 175,000 during the year.
