Hello Campers! BT provides free WiFi access to UK holidaymakers

As we're told, staying at home is the new going abroad. But long gone are the days when you can pack up, set up your tent and only make a call to the family on the campsite phonebox. To celebrate the boom of the camping and caravanning holiday internet service provider BT has announced it will be providing WiFi access at major holiday and leasure parks across the counttry.

It has been estimated around 50,000 visitors will make their way to a camp site over the August bank holiday. Now, any BT Openzone user visiting 77 camping and caravanning sites across the UK will be able to connect up to the internet provided they take a wireless-enabled device with them. Not only does this mean holidaymakers will be able to surf the net from their tents or caravans but it also gives them scope to keep entertained with online gaming or make cheap VoIP calls.

Speaking on the installation, Chris Bruce, general manager of BT Openzone, said: “Having the option to get online and stay entertained will provide a useful 'plan B' if the weather does its worst, and being able to look up tourist information and hunt out local gems will make for a better trip.”

As well as BT Openzone subscribers, O2 iPhone and mobile broadband users with inclusive WiFi minutes in their contracts will be able to access the service. Other users are free to purchase a BT Openzone voucher online before they depart for their holiday.
