Mobile phones the future of mobile broadband, says survey

Analysts, Point Topic have predicted that mobile phones will be the preferred method for connecting to internet on the move, in favour of WiFi hotspots.

The recent survey found that UK mobile phone companies have managed to grow their market share to 47 per cent of users accessing the internet away from home or work. In comparison 42 per cent were found to prefer WiFi hotspots. A similar survey conducted this time last year showed a 40:30 ratio in favour of WiFi. O2 is the most popular service provider for mobile internet with a customer base or 26 per cent of the total market. Orange and Vodafone each service around 20 per cent of the market, whilst T-Mobile and 3 have 14 and 12 per cent respectively.
