New Opera web browser found to make internet surfing speedier

Computer specialist magazine Computerworld recently got its mitts on the beta version of Opera’s latest web browser, Opera 10.5 and, after challenging benchmark testing, has found it to be the world’s fastest browser available at the moment.

Comparing the new browser against the likes of Safari and Google Chrome the magazine found, thanks to a new JavaScript engine, it thrashed the competition and offered users the speediest method for browsing online.

The result of the benchmark trial was quite revealing. To give you an idea of how it compared to the previous number one and number two browsers, the test found Opera 10.5 was nearly 15 per cent faster than Safari for Windows and 20 per cent faster than Google Chrome. Meanwhile, Opera’s preview was more than twice as fast as popular web browser Mozilla Firefox 3.6, over eight times faster than Opera 10.10 and ten times faster than Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (IE8).

Other features impressing the testing team included an improved interface with less space needed for menus as well as support for Windows 7’s Aero Peek and Jump List features. Privacy was also given thought with the ability to mark any tab as private so browsing history isn’t stored.

The release date for the final Opera 10.5 browser hasn’t been announced yet, but if you’d like to get a taste of how it might improve your web surfing speeds you can download the beta here.
