Why now is a good time to pick the Samsung NC10

With three mobile broadband suppliers now listing the Samsung NC10 netbook on their books, now could be the best time to grab one of these well-rated models.

The Samsung NC10 was first offered by O2 back in March, and it wasn't long before the little netbook was getting excellent reviews. Weighing in at just 1.3kg, and featuring a 10.2 inch screen, Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB of RAM and Windows XP Home edition, its got quite a reasonable spec for such a small machine. Its particular selling point, though, is its extended battery life, which has earned it particular mention in many reviews.

Following on from O2, both 3 and Vodafone opted to offer the NC10 as part of their ranges of mobile broadband subsidised laptops; and now with all three companies looking to benefit from the rave reviews the little netbook has garnered, something of a price war is developing.

3 launched its NC10 deal with a 5GB per month data allowance for £30 per month on an 18 month contract, and Vodafone's equivalents are a 1GB allowance contract for £25, or 3GB for £30, both over 24 months. In response, today O2 cut the price of its deals featuring the NC10, including the 3GB data allowance option which is down to £29.38 per month on a 24 month contract, and the 10GB allowance one which is down to £39.15.

This could leave Vodafone's pricing looking a little high, and it's thought that the company - which is the only one to offer embedded 3G rather than a dongle for connection - may be looking to cut its prices to stay competitive.

If you didn't follow any of that, full details of all available laptop and netbook options can be found here.

Watchout though if you're considering getting the NC10 netbook package from Vodafone - it only comes with a 3-cell battery unlike the 6 cell version the retail Samsung is packaged with, meaning you will barely get 3 hour's use unlike the 7+ hours all the reviews rave about and one of the NC10's strongest selling points. Even poorer value from Vodafone.
