O2 meets 3G coverage target

Under warning from UK communications regulator Ofcom, O2 has announced that it has met the 3G coverage obligation that was imposed eight years ago for providing mobile broadband. O2 3G coverage is now available to at least 80 per cent of the UK population. Previously they were the only 3G licensee to fail to provide the coverage target and were in line for receiving a £40m penalty fee. The company are now in the process of a £500m upgrade to its 3G network and working towards increasing download speeds. A review will be carried out again by Ofcom at the end of this year to ensure that service requirements are being met. Source: Silicon.com
