PC World upsets Carphone Warehouse

Computer supplier PC World has run an advert in a well known daily newspaper comparing the mobile broadband deals that they offer to those offered by the Carphone Warehouse.

Both companies are running a similar offer where a customer signs up for a mobile broadband service and in return receives a free laptop. Nothing could be simpler... or so it seemed.

The advert run by PC World shows how down and dirty the mobile broadband fight for customers is going to get. PC World have gone down the comparison route; their free laptop is an Advent 4211, while Carphone Warehouse are offering the Webbook.

PC World's advert claims that their laptop has better memory and XP for £20 per month, while the Webbook runs Linux and will cost £25 per month.

A Carphone Warehouse source said: ‘They've completely ignored really basic stuff. For example, their laptop is £280 and ours is £220, and customers are signing up to 18 months with us and two years with them.'
