Rumours spread "Googlephone" to launch 5 January

After a press conference invitation and a T-Mobile leak, rumours are spreading the Android-based “Googlephone”, the Nexus One smartphone will be announced next week. Although Google hasn't confirmed the launch, tech press are anticipating a 10am reveal on Tuesday 5 January at its Mountain View Googleplex.

According to news site, The Register, the invitation received by press read:

“With the launch of the first Android-powered device just over a year ago, we've seen how a powerful, open platform can spur mobile product innovation. And this is just the beginning of what's possible.”

Additionally, a T-Mobile intranet post has been acquired be TmoNew news noting the new Google Android phone will be sold “solely by Google via the Web” with T-Mobile offering “service support, including billing, coverage, features and rate plans.”

Although Google originally denied it would be releasing a phone, it acknowledged the imminent Nexus One, manufactured by HTC, on 12 December 2009.
