TalkTalk finally lays the Tiscali brand to rest
The head of Carphone Warehouse and TalkTalk Charles Dunstone made an official announcement on his corporate blog yesterday that the Tiscali brand is no more. Confirmation comes nearly half a year after it acquired the business in July 2009.
Dunstone confirmed: “From today the Tiscali brand is no more and we’re committed to giving all of our customers absolute clarity about who we are, the services we provide and the prices we charge.”
Previous Tiscali broadband subscribers have now been shuffled onto TalkTalk tariffs, with some finding no change been made to monthly fees. However, for others there is a small increase. These customers will be asked to pay another £5 if they aren’t already signed up to TalkTalk’s phone service.
Speaking on the changes Dunstone said: “We’ve gained a lot from the Tiscali acquisition, most notably TV and Portal expertise and some great people, but from today the brand name will disappear and our focus is on TalkTalk.”
The acquisition of Tiscali and integration of its 1.8 million customers set Carphone Warehouse back £236m. It now has approximately 4.1 million subscribers in total, making it the second largest internet service provider in the UK behind BT.
