Virgin Media offers up new movies-on-demand service
Virgin Media has confirmed it is to team up with Universal Pictures to launch PictureBox, a movies-on-demand TV subscription service available through Virgin Media's TV platform.
Available from July, PictureBox can be bundled into Virgin Media subscriptions for an extra £5 per month giving subscribers the opportunity to view films from a selection of 28 titles at any given time. Additional titles will be added to the line-up every Friday with many of the film choices available in HD.
Approximately 3.6 million Virgin Media TV subscribers look set to benefit from the launch of the PictureBox service, and of course, all new customers who sign up to a Virgin Media package bundling in Broadband, TV and phone (or all three) will be given the opportunity to add PictureBox to their monthly bill.

Speaking on the new movie service, Belinda Menendez, president, NBC Universal International TV Distribution, said: “This agreement is a significant step in the growth of the PictureBox brand, which will now be available to Virgin Media's 3.6 million TV customers in the UK. Our reach in the UK has now increased more than fivefold and the service has expanded internationally since initial launch less than three years ago.”
Films confirmed to be showing on PictureBox in the coming months include Hot Fuzz, The Bourne Ultimatum, Children of Men and The Holiday as well as classic Universal Pictures Ltd blockbusters such as E.T – The Extra Terrestrial.
