Buyers’ guide: iPhone 4 Comparison

The iPhone 4 has become one of the most sought after new phones thanks to its amazing looks and dazzling performance. As a result we're already seeing plenty of iPhone 4 deals so anyone interested in one has plenty of options. Mobile phones may be two a penny, and there are countless cheap offers and deals for all of them, while on this release the iPhone now finally has a lot more flexibility when it comes to picking up a deal from a UK mobile provider.

The iPhone 4 has been completely revised and many people are already citing it as the king of mobile phones, smartphones, touchscreen handsets, call them what you will. Apple has identified a few teething problems with the device though, which is common with any groundbreaking release, but the amazing new features found on this touchscreen mobile phone more than outweighs any negative issues. A stylish redesign means that the chassis now looks and feels better than ever, while inside the casing there is a formidable selection of smartphone technology that allows you to do anything and everything.

The different iPhone 4 deals

Many of the mobile phone providers are offering up the iPhone 4 in a variety of different package deals. While offers are perhaps a little more difficult to come across, unlike less desirable mobiles that are often given away in an attempt to get you to sign up for a contract, it is possible to bag an iPhone 4 deal if you do your research. Whatever option you decide to go for it’s likely that you'll find that these aren’t cheap. A no-contract 16GB iPhone 4 will cost around the £500 mark, although if you go down this route it’s then possible to get a SIM-only deal and that allows you a little more freedom without the lock-in scenario that comes with a contract deal.

You can compare what's on offer and new prices from our comparison chart above, which allows you to balance how the iPhone 4 stacks up against other touchscreen mobile phones and 3G smart phones currently available through contract deals before you buy. The same goes for the pay-as-you-go deals offered by mobile providers here in the UK. While these may appear to offer the cheapest deals on the market remember that you'll need to pay for the handset outright before you get started. Nevertheless, PAYG deals on the iPhone 4 will will often give you a decent amount of data usage per month without you being stung with any additional charges.

Contract deals for the iPhone 4

There are a lot more contract deals currently available for the iPhone 4 than were available for earlier incarnations of this smartphone, and, of course, if you're already in a contract deal with one of the mobile providers then you'll probably be able to negotiate a decent upgrade. However, going down the contract option route for an iPhone 4 is likely to be quite an expensive proposition, so make sure that you compare all of the deals using our comparison table above.

Remember to pick through the terms and conditions too, whether the deal comes from 3 Mobile, Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2 or Orange. They all have their own variations on the iPhone 4 deal, so they need to be studied carefully. Contract deals for touchs creen mobile phones like the Apple iPhone 4 tend to be quite lengthy too, so it's likely you'll be signing up for 18 or 24 months. Add up the figures over that time, including what you'll be paying each month and any extra charges for using too much data and you don’t have to be a mathematician to see that it's not going to be a bargain-basement mobile phone.

Get the best from your iPhone 4 deal

We've all seen rave reviews for the iPhone 4 and once you start using one it soon becomes apparent why they're so popular compared to other 3G phones or touch screen phones on the market, although manufacturers like HTC are chasing after Apple with each new smartphone release. Tapping into the 3G network allows you to surf the web and send and receive emails with ease. However, when you’re shopping for deals don’t forget to check coverage levels from the different mobile providers listed in our comparison table. It's possible to do this by clicking on the coverage levels check link. While you’re at it, click through to the mobile providers terms and conditions in order to find out what things you might need to look out for if you’re the sort of person who downloads a lot of data.
