Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670 Smartphone Reviews and Deals
Get a Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670 smartphone with mobile internet from just £10.50/mth. Online exclusives.

The Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670 is a 3G Android 2.2 Froyo powered smartphone with a 3.3-inch capacitive TFT touchscreen that feels great in the hand thanks to fairly diminutive dimensions and a weight of just 108 grams.
There’s only 160MB of internal memory plus an included 2GB microSD card, but that can be boosted to 32GB. A five-megapixel camera comes with auto focus, geo-tagging and smile detection plus there’s QVGA video too.
The 600MHz processor performs admirably enough, while other features include push email, FM radio, MP3 player, GPS plus a wealth of Google options, including Maps. Bluetooth and USB round out connectivity on the Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670.

Samsung Galaxy Fit S5670 review
Good
Cheap and light; reasonable camera
Bad
Awful screen resolution; rivals offer more value
Overview
Coming in a few pounds cheaper than its sister smartphone the Mini, it’s a little difficult to see where the Samsung Galaxy Fit, well, fits. Both were released at the start of 2011; size/weight/look is about the same; both Android; they’re in the same price category – so what’s the deal? Read on and we’ll take a closer look.
If you haven’t read our Galaxy Mini review though, the Samsung Galaxy Fit is an Android handset with a standard Samsung touchscreen look, weighing in at 108g. There are three buttons below the touchscreen and a nice looking plastic ribbed back plate – it’s just a shame that it feels as if it’s going to fall off at any moment.
It comes with Android 2.2 Froyo (upgradeable to the more recent v2.3 Gingerbread) and you should be able to find it for less than £150 at time of writing (Nov 2011); maybe even less than £100.
Work
With just a 600MHz processor powering the Fit along, don’t expect fireworks. However, all your standard Android tools are on board and the full Android Market is available, so you should have no problem setting it up to receive your office email, open and view documents or even amend them. The calendar is simple to use and GPS worked fine.
However, the screen is a big let down. Like the Mini it is 240x320 pixels, which is nothing to write home about to begin with, but it’s also only 65,000 colours – down from 256,000 on the Mini – and you really notice the difference. It looks cheap and I certainly wouldn’t want to spend too long looking at it, especially for doing something intensive such as reading. Frankly, we can’t see any reason to own this as a business smartphone.
Play
Again, the Samsung Galaxy Fit’s screen is a big issue here. But at least when it comes to messing around, it isn’t necessarily a game breaker. Even so, you won’t want to be staring at it for too long.
On the plus side, for a budget Android smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Fit has a pretty good camera on board. It’s a five-megapixel snapper with autofocus, geo-tagging and smile detection but sadly no flash. However, you can shoot rudimentary video too; QVGA at 15fps. That being said, the snaps we took were clear and bright and the video wasn’t half bad; if the camera is the key to your budget smartphone purchase, the Fit is worth a look.
As we already mentioned, you’ll also have access to the Android Market to download all your favourite apps. There’s YouTube on board, but not an awful lot else. As for file storage, there’s only a tiny amount of onboard storage but this can be expanded via microSD cards.
Connectivity
At least in terms of connectivity, the Fit ticks all the required boxes. We found it a pleasure in the hand and the signal seemed to be fine, as was call quality. As a phone, thankfully, the Fit is a winner.
The touchscreen is fine too, if not great, while the onscreen keyboard is simple but generally effective. At this price you can’t expect too much from the touchscreen, but we had no problems with input at all.
You’ll be able to get online without a problem, as staples 3G/EDGE/HSPA are all equipped, as is Wi-Fi. There’s GPRS as well, plus Bluetooth (v2.1 with A2DP). The GPS has A-GPS support for all your sat nav needs.
Performance
You shouldn’t expect too much from the 600MHz processor, but the Samsung Galaxy Fit had no problems with the basics tasks we threw at it and there were no crashes or slowdown. That said, we didn’t really push it. There’s not much else to say.
Verdict
Overall, we’re still left asking what on earth the Samsung Galaxy Fit is here at all for. It’s priced so close to the Mini as to render it pointless, as it is inferior in a number of areas and better only in the camera department; strange, when they’ve given it such a low quality screen to look at your photos on.
As big fans of the recent line of Samsung Android smartphones it pains us to clatter one so badly but really Samsung, are we missing something? Answers on a postcard.
