The mid-range offering in the new HTC One series, the HTC One S may lack a headlining quad core CPU like its bigger brother the HTC One X but still stands out thanks to a slick casing which is just 7.6mm thick. The chassis is a metal unibody with two design options - an attractive gradient finish and a micro-arc oxidation shell. This high tech treatment results in a ceramic coating that’s more durable than typical anodised finishes.

The HTC One S utilises a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display which ensures outstanding contrast and excellent viewing angles, the screen is also protected with scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass. Inside there’s a 1.5GHz processor along with 1GB RAM and 16GB internal storage for apps, music and other files.

For photography the HTC One S features a standard 8-megapixel sensor but this is coupled with an f2.0 backside illuminated lens for vastly improved low-light performance. It’s incredibly quick, too, with a start-up time of just 0.7s.

As a modern smartphone it naturally supports HSDPA 3G mobile broadband and Wi-Fi along with a standard suite of extras such as Bluetooth, A-GPS and HTC's own Beats Audio for superior sound quality.
