What is an unlimited data phone and why do you need it?
The latest touch screen mobile phones, like the iPhone or HTC smartphones, have large screens and user friendly mobile browsers. These mobile phones do much more than just making phone calls or sending texts. In addition, the mobile network speeds have also increased significantly, especially on 3G phones. You can now browse the internet on 3G smartphones almost like you would do on a PC. There is a fixed additional cost that you will have to pay for your unlimited data smartphone, but this cost will be much lower in comparison with what you have to pay on usage based plans. It is the cheapest and the best mobile data solution that you can get if you have a moderate to high data usage.
Is the data usage really unlimited?
The simple answer is no. Like most fixed line and mobile broadband plans, the data usage on your unlimited data mobile phone will be governed by a fair usage policy. However, fair use limits are usually set quite high and there is very little chance of a typical mobile phone user exceeding the limit.
The exact limit varies from one operator to another and it will be mentioned in the terms and conditions of your plan. Typically, this limit is set at 500 MB or even 1 GB. Almost all UK mobile operators, including 3 Mobile, Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2, and Orange, have plans that allow such high limits of usage, though some may not use the term "unlimited". As you have lots of options in the unlimited smartphone market, make sure that you compare the deals carefully and read up reviews before you buy.
