About Hyperoptic Broadband deals

If you need the fastest broadband possible, Hyperoptic has you covered. With a deal from this internet service provider, you can get a full-fibre connection delivering download speeds of up to 1Gb (gigabits per second). There’s also the bonus option of being able to sign up to flexible, monthly rolling contracts.

Let’s find out more about its deals for new customers.

Hyperoptic broadband only plans

Hyperoptic broadband is only available in London and a few other locations (including Sheffield, Newcastle, Birmingham, and Nottingham).

Hyperoptic doesn’t use the Openreach (BT line) network like most other broadband providers. Instead, it has its own FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) network.

This means it’s much faster than most, and the choice of speeds it offers are a little different to those you’ll find with other broadband deals.

Hyperoptic offers the following packages:

Hyperoptic 50Mb Fast Fibre Broadband

  • average download speed: 57Mb

Suitable for comfortably streaming in HD

Hyperoptic 150Mb Superfast Fibre Broadband

  • average download speed: 158Mb

Good for busier homes with multiple users online at once or lots of connected smart devices.

Hyperoptic 500Mb Ultrafast Fibre Broadband

  • average download speed: 520Mb

Large homes can comfortably all be online at once, and stream in 4K.

Hyperoptic 1Gb Hyperfast Fibre Broadband

  • average download speed: 900Mb

Perfect for those who need to rely on high-quality broadband. Flawless performance for very large households, even at peak time and committed online gamers.

Hyperoptic’s home broadband service gives you symmetrical broadband speeds, which means that it provides the same speed for both downloading and uploading.

So, while full fibre broadband from BT, for example, is restricted to a maximum upload speed of around 110Mb, Hyperoptic can offer upload speeds up to 900Mb!

  • What is Openreach?

Openreach is the company that maintains the former British Telecom Network used for the majority of broadband and phone services. If a repair or installation is required, it’s Openreach who will send an engineer, not your provider.

More than 650 service providers using the Openreach network. That’s the majority of the UK’s broadband providers. This includes Sky, TalkTalk and BT. The exception to this is Virgin Media - it uses its own, separate cable network.

How fast is Hyperoptic broadband?

Example download times for the film ‘Wonka’ in 1080p HD (6.5GB)
Hyperoptic package Download Time
Hyperoptic 50Mb 15 mins 12 secs
Hyperoptic 150Mb 5 mins 29 secs
Hyperoptic 500Mb 1 min 40 secs
Hyperoptic 1Gb 57 seconds

Hyperoptic broadband and phone bundles

Hyperoptic has the option of broadband and phone bundles with selected plans, and it will be possible to keep your existing phone number for free. This includes broadband and phone packages on a rolling monthly basis.

All of its packages can include free evening and weekend calls for a small additional monthly cost with voicemail and call waiting.

You can also add other call add-ons:

  • Anytime UK Landline Call Plan (£3 per month)
  • UK Mobile Call Plan (£3 per month)
  • International Call Plan (£5 per month)

Hyperoptic’s phone services are delivered via VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol’), so don’t require a phone line.

Can I get Hyperoptic broadband deals in my area?

Because Hyperoptic operates its own network, coverage is very different from the Openreach and Virgin Media networks, and it has relatively limited availability compared to the big names.

However, it is available in selected locations across England, Scotland, and Wales.

To find out whether Hyperoptic is on offer where you live, you can type your postcode into our deals checker.

Does Hyperoptic offer a Social Tariff?

Hyperoptic does offer a Social Tariff package for those on Universal Credit or benefits.

There are two Fair Fibre plans available, both on a rolling monthly basis. Prices start from £15 per month, with £0 activation fee.

Hyperoptic Wi-Fi Router

You get a free Wi-Fi Hyperhub router bundled in with Hyperoptic deals. In most cases, this will be set up by an engineer during your internet service installation process.

Hyperoptic extras and free gifts

Hyperoptic is focused on great value ultrafast broadband. It isn't a provider that throws in lots of free extras. However, at the time of writing, it was possible to get  months free on sign-up for its 150Mb, 500Mb and 1Gbps packages. A Hyperoptic voucher code wasn’t required.

Hyperoptic also pledges never to raise prices in the middle of your contract, and it offers automatic compensation in the case of delayed activation, service outages, and missed appointments.

Switching to Hyperoptic

If you're unhappy with your current broadband package, but you're still tied into a contract, you might want to take a look at Hyperoptic's 'Switch Now' incentive. For those signing up to a 24-month residential package, it's possible to get up to 9 months service up and running alongside your existing broadband, until your current contract ends. This comes with a 30-day guarantee, so if you're not seeing an improvement with your internet speeds, you can easily cancel without any exit fees.

Hyperoptic’s Price Match Guarantee

If you spot other broadband retailers offering a Residential Full Fibre Broadband packages or a Broadband & Phone Service with the same, or better specifications at a lower cost, you can make use of the price match guarantee. Hyperoptic will then match this price.

This offer is only open to new Hyperoptic customers who haven’t signed up for a package yet, but also applies to existing customers in their 30-day cooling off period. To get help with this you can call Hyperoptic customer support on 0333 332 1111. Or you can email [email protected].

How to get Hyperoptic Broadband

There's a slight difference in installation compared to regular Openreach services, because you’ll need an engineer visit to connect the fibre optic line to your home.

The line is usually run in close to your front door, and the router will be installed close to where the fibre optic cable enters your property; you can ask to have it in another location, but there might be an additional cost.

Installation usually takes around an hour, and engineers work six days a week.

Hyperoptic Broadband FAQs

  • Can I get Hyperoptic without a contract?

Hyperoptic offers a rolling monthly package alongside its 12-month and 24-month contract lengths. While you are still signing a contract, you’re only committed for a month at a time, so you can cancel at short notice without worrying about paying any hefty penalties.

Expert Summary

If you’re after a trustworthy deal with very fast, full fibre speeds, it’s worth taking a look to see if you can sign up to Hyperoptic’s broadband plans. Unfortunately, it’s not accessible everywhere, and you can only sign up in 64 towns and cities across the UK.

If you can sign up, you’ll have the freedom to choose between a range of different contract lengths. A fixed price promise means you won’t get any nasty price hikes mid-contract.

Hyperoptic is almost unrivalled for its ultrafast upload speeds, which are as nifty as its download speeds. This is known as a ‘symmetrical connection’. Sadly, that’s something even the likes of Virgin Media doesn't offer at the moment.
