About KCOM Broadband
KCOM occupies a unique position in the UK broadband market as it’s one of the few fixed-line providers serving Hull, an area that does not have access to the BT Openreach or Virgin Media networks available in the rest of the country.
This is because Hull was the only place that retained its municipal telephone network when the rest of the country was nationalised (first as Post Office Telecommunications, then British Telecom).
That means if you live in Hull you won’t be able to choose from the usual selection of broadband providers and deals, and in some cases, KCOM may be your only option for home broadband.
So what does KCOM offer, and is it any good? Read on to find out everything you need to know about KCOM and broadband in Hull.
Can I get KCOM Broadband?
Before we delve into the details of what KCOM offers, it’s important to check availability. If you don’t live in Hull or any of the areas covered by its network then you can’t get KCOM. And if you do live there, you’ll need to find out which of KCOM’s packages are available to your home.

Why do we need your postcode?
Our postcode checker will show the availability of KCOM fibre packages for customers in Hull and surrounding locations, as well as the rest of the UK.
If you live in a KCOM network area but cannot get FTTP then our checker will not display any deals — in that situation you will need to contact KCOM directly to find out your options.
KCOM Broadband: packages and speeds
KCOM operates its own network, and in many places, it uses Fibre To The Premises (FTTP, or FTTH — Fibre To The Home) technology to deliver very fast broadband. This means its speeds are quite a bit quicker than many of the packages offered by ISPs using the Openreach network.
The FTTP KCOM Lightstream deals are available with the following speeds:
- Lightstream Full Fibre 100: 100Mb download / 30Mb upload
- Lightstream Full Fibre 300: 300Mb download / 75Mb upload
- Lightstream Full Fibre 500: 500Mb download / 100Mb upload
- Lightstream Full Fibre 900: 900Mb download / 180Mb upload
If you cannot get FTTP, KCOM can also provide ADSL and FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) broadband, with speeds that are similar to those found in the rest of the country using the BT network. However, our comparison table only shows KCOM Lightstream deals, so you will need to contact KCOM directly in order to get these alternatives if you do not have FTTP in your area.
KCOM also offers a selection of affordable packages aimed at customers who receive benefits; read our guide to getting broadband on benefits to learn more.
