About BE
BE Broadband has set its stall out as the gamer's friend. It claims to give its members "unmetered, unrestricted and unchallenged broadband", although it doesn't have the best coverage geographically. That said, where it is possible to get its unbundled service, speeds of 'up to' 24Mb are offered - the fastest non-cable service out there. Advanced users can also change their router's settings (it's called the BE Box), allowing gamers to make more of their connection. BE is also proud of its community, having a very active message board where it runs ideas past its users on a regular basis.
The company started out as an independent internet service provider, going live in August 2005. BE Broadband was bought by O2 in June 2006, becoming part of the huge Telefonica group, but continuing to trade as a separate entity.
To further its gaming credentials, BE became the official broadband provider of the UK eSports Association in February 2009. It is also experimenting with 'bonding': where more than high-speed connections are joined to increase speed. Using this method it hopes to be able to offer a service close to 50Mb in the future: testing will continue through 2009.

So I went back to BE. It's quite a bit more money, but the connection is pretty much rock solid and I haven't - yet - had to reboot the router. I didn't have to reboot once in the year that I was on BE before, either. I just tested my download speed too - it was 12.5Mb, which isn't at all bad. Set up was a bit more confusing this time round - probably because I had to set up my static IP address. But the call centre help was very competent and got me up and running straight away. I'll certainly stick with BE if this keeps up... Report abuse

With droppouts and connection freezes now an hourly occurrence and tech support taking days to respond to my problem, I doubt I'll have to worry about their DNS service for long as I found this site whilst looking for a replacement provider.
Some people rave about their service from Be but that's certainly not my experience and I certainly do not recommend that you choose them as your provider.
(oh, and 24MB in your dreams - I've never had faster than 3MB) Report abuse
