All about Gigaclear broadband

Gigaclear is a Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) provider which uses its own full-fibre network to offer ultrafast speeds that leave other broadband services in the dust.

With a Gigaclear deal, you can get broadband at speeds up to an average of 900Mb — fast enough to cope with even the most demanding households.

So no matter how big your home is, or how many people you have downloading, streaming, or gaming simultaneously, Gigaclear will be able to provide broadband that can cope.

And best of all, this doesn’t come at a high cost, with prices starting from less than £30 per month.

Read on to learn more about Gigaclear and what it has to offer.

Can I get Gigaclear?

As an FTTP provider that runs its own network, availability for Gigaclear is more limited than other internet service providers (ISPs).

It is also committed to upgrading rural communities which may have been passed over by other providers, so it is found in villages and towns in counties such as Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, and Northamptonshire.

Your first step to getting Gigaclear broadband is to use our postcode checker to find out if the Gigaclear network covers your area, and what kind of speeds you can get.

Once you've entered your postcode, you'll only see deals available to that address. We partner with Thinkbroadband in order to bring you the most accurate information possible (see our privacy policy for further details).

The postcode check will show if you can get Gigaclear, and if not, what other broadband deals are available. Even if Gigaclear isn’t an option, you will be able to get some kind of broadband.

What Gigaclear packages are available, and how fast is it?

Gigaclear has its own high-speed fibre network and the range of speeds differs from many other providers.

It currently offers a choice of four packages, all of which include unlimited data, a Linksys Wi-Fi router, and a free Wi-Fi node for improved signal coverage around your home.

  • Gigaclear Superfast 200 - average 200Mb download/upload speed
  • Gigaclear Ultrafast 300 - average 300Mb download/upload speed
  • Gigaclear Ultrafast 600 - average 600Mb download/upload speed
  • Gigaclear Hyperfast 900 - average 900Mb download/upload speed

It’s also worth noting that Gigaclear broadband is symmetrical, meaning it has the same download and upload speed. Almost all other broadband services are asymmetrical, with upload speeds that are much slower than the download rate.

If you’ve found the upload rates of other services to be lacking, Gigaclear will not disappoint.

Which broadband package is right for me?

Even the cheapest Gigaclear deal is significantly quicker than the ~65Mb average top speed of a typical Openreach (BT phone line) fibre connection.

For many people, there will be no need to go beyond Gigaclear Ultrafast 300, as this is more than enough to easily accommodate the requirements of most households, with plenty of bandwidth left over.

The Ultrafast 600 and Hyperfast 900 packages are aimed at the most demanding homes. If you frequently download or upload large files or you have a sizeable home where multiple devices are being used for bandwidth-heavy activities like 4K streaming, these packages will prove to be up the job.

Gigaclear Linksys router

All Gigaclear deals include a free Linksys Wi-Fi router.

The router supports 5Ghz 802.11ac Wi-Fi as well as the older 2.4Ghz 802.11b/g/n standard.

Unusually, it is also a tri-band Wi-Fi router, compared to the dual-band Wi-Fi of most other ISP-supplied routers.

Why does this matter? It means your Gigaclear router can operate three separate Wi-Fi networks: one for older devices using a 2.4Ghz signal, alongside two 5Ghz signals for newer and faster Wi-Fi devices.

With this feature, you can dedicate a Wi-Fi link to devices that require very fast speeds without slowing down other devices on the network.

The router also has built-in Mesh Wi-Fi support, allowing you to easily extend the Wi-Fi signal around the home and eliminate weak coverage areas. Gigaclear includes a free Wi-Fi node with every package.

Does Gigaclear offer a phone package?

Gigaclear is a broadband-only provider and does not offer any kind of phone package.

You may wish to upgrade your mobile phone plan and use that for calls. Another option would be an internet phone service such as Skype or Vonage, which can be set up to work with a regular telephone handset.

However, if you require a fixed-line telephone for an alarm or emergency system then you will have to budget for the additional cost of setting up and running a regular landline alongside Gigaclear.

Frequently Asked Questions about Gigaclear broadband

How do I switch to Gigaclear?

Because Gigaclear operates its own network separate from other providers you will need to handle the switch yourself.

First, check that you can get Gigaclear and sign up. Once the order is confirmed, you will then need to contact your existing provider and request cancellation.

What other providers are like Gigaclear?

Gigaclear is not the only provider offering FTTP broadband with this kind of speed: other providers with similar deals include Hyperoptic and Community Fibre. Bigger names such as BT, Sky, Vodafone, and Virgin Media can also offer high-speed FTTP broadband.

However, not every FTTP provider offers symmetrical broadband (internet with the same upload and download speed) like Gigaclear, so if you are interested in a service that is capable of handling very large file uploads this is something to check before buying.

However, Gigaclear is also fairly unique because it has focused its efforts on rural communities, where other providers of a similar speed are unlikely to be available.

How do I contact Gigaclear customer service?

Can I keep my phone number with Gigaclear?

Gigaclear does not offer a phone line or any other phone services. To retain a landline phone number, you would either need to have a separate landline in addition to the Gigaclear connection or port the number to a Voice over IP (VoIP) service such as Vonage.
